This is a great campground! It's right on the Mississippi River. It's a City Park so yes, there are few amenities, but the views and the natural aspect of this park make up for the lack of amenities. There is a train that runs across the river, but it is far enough away that you can hear the comforting sound of the train horn in the distance, but not the terrible rumble of the train actually going by. The only negative I found was there was no TV reception, either analog or digital, which I found interesting since this park is in the city of Dubuque. Oh, and I forgot to mention the casino and greyhound racing park within walking distance of the park. Overall this is a great park and we will definitely be back!
We've camped here before and we really like this park. It seems like a cute place, but unfortunately, it seems to be getting more and more run down everytime we stop. The animals were gone this time. The utilities worked great and the sites are level. We have a 45 foot motorhome and things were a little tight, but not bad. We will stay here again when we're in the area.
The campground itself is nice. There are level paved terraced sites, and some of them really do have a view of the ocean. Management must have changed since the previous posts, where the people said the staff were nice. The problem with this park is with the staff. When we were checking in, one of the first things mentioned was the fact that they don't give refunds. We were then inundated with a list of rules that if we didn't follow "we'll be at each others' throats and remember, we don't give refunds." The office and laundry room are only open from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm, and like a previous poster mentioned, laundry cannot be started after 3:30 pm. What's with that? They used to have a hot tub/spa, but it is out of order right now, which isn't really a problem because even when it was open you could only use it from 2:00 pm until 4:30 pm! I can't say as the staff were exactly rude, but they sure weren't welcoming and we certainly did not get the warm fuzzies, which is too bad because the campground itself is nice.
I agree with the previous poster. This is an excellent place for an overnight stay. The front desk personnel were friendly and helpful, and the office is open until 11:00 pm. Sites are level and long, some back-ins and 50 amp power is good. Views of the mountains are fantastic! We've never stayed at a Motel/RV campground before so we were pleasantly surprised by the welcome and the great facilities provided. Will definitely put Country Host Motel & RV Park on our "return" list.
